It looks like the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y will be built in Tesla’s Chinese Gigafactory.
According to the filing, the vehicles will be built in a factory that will have an annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles. It made sense for Tesla to build their Tesla Model 3 in China since the wages are lower in China and Tesla will need to keep production cost at a minimum to keep their Tesla 3 profitable and affordable.
Building the vehicles in China would also allow Tesla to dodge the tariffs on models that they will be selling in China.
As for the Model Y, we got to see a new teaser image of the vehicle recently. Although the image did not offer, it does suggest that Tesla is getting closer to offering the vehicle. The Model Y will be sharing their platform with the Model 3 and it might also be getting the falcon wing doors similar to what the Model X had.
